Course Objective
The aim of this course is to introduce students to early childhood education systems in different countries, to develop the ability to compare these systems with practices in Turkey, and to develop an understanding of the historical, philosophical, and political foundations of early childhood education on a global scale. The aim is for students to develop their own professional perspectives by analyzing how preschool education is shaped in different cultural and socioeconomic contexts.
Course Content
The course will cover the philosophical and historical foundations of early childhood education, the current situation in Turkey, and different approaches around the world. The preschool education systems of selected countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, Oceania, and the Middle East will then be examined and compared.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Explains the philosophical and historical foundations of early childhood education.
- Describes the basic characteristics of the early childhood education system in Turkey.
- Compare different approaches to early childhood education.
- Compares countries' education systems in terms of policy, program, teacher training, and family involvement.
