Course Objective

In this course, the main objective is to teach students the core areas of linguistics such as grammar, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis as well as first language acquisition.

Course Content

The content of the course includes the teaching of topics such as grammar, syntax (sentence structure and formation), semantics (meaning analysis) and pragmatics, discourse analysis and fiest language acquisition. Discussions will focus on their relevance and application to second language acquisition and foreign language teaching.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to understant the key concepts in linguistics and identify topics such as syntax, semantics and sociolinguistics.
  2. Students will define the basic terms and concepts of linguistics and its subfields.
