Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to enable students to examine the reciprocal relationship between language and society from a sociolinguistic perspective. In this course, students will explore how language use is influenced by social context and how linguistic choices reflect and shape individuals’ identities, social relationships, statuses, the groups to which they belong, and their cultural values.
