Course Objective
The objective of this course is to explain the basic concepts of economics in sociological context. This course aims to provide give an interdisciplinary approach to students by evaluating the relationship between economics and sociology.
Course Content
In this course, the basic concepts of economics and sociology will be explained; and the economic activities of people within the society will be taught. This course will discuss the relations between economics and society in the Mercantilist period; moreover, their transformations with Industrial Revolution. Then, the post-industrial transformation, globalization and information socity will be explained in this course. Innovations coming with the Industry 4.0 and its the possible effects on current economic and social issues will be discussed. The basic concepts of economics such as market, consumption, cost, firm, labor will be considered within the framework of social networks, social relations and institutions.

Course Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to describe the interaction between economics and sociology and analyze the intersections of these two disciplines.
- Students will be able to explain the basic concepts of economic sociology and evaluate the role of these concepts in economic processes.
- By examining the social foundations of economic structures and processes, students will be able to evaluate the effects of these foundations on economic outcomes.
- Students will be able to analyze socio-economic behavior from a sociological perspective and discuss the economic consequences of these behaviors.
- Students will be able to describe and critically evaluate the historical development of economic sociology and the mainstream theories in this field.
