Açıklamalar
Plagiarism is a serious academic offence that will not be tolerated under any circumstances and any violation will be referred to the school administrators for disciplinary action and will be severely punished.
What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the use of another person’s ideas or expressions without appropriate acknowledgment and presenting these ideas or forms of expression as your own. It includes not only written works such as books or journals, but data or images that may be presented in tables, diagrams, designs, plans, photographs, film, music, formulae, web sites and computer programs. Plagiarism includes the use of the work of lecturers or other students as your own without acknowledgment. Self-plagiarism is the reuse of your own work without indicating that you have reused it in other written format.
Avoiding Plagiarism
Plagiarism is avoided by appropriately acknowledging sources of your ideas or expressions. In this case this means:
1. Providing an exact citation using an adequate referencing system at the place where any idea or expression from another source is used, whether directly quoted or paraphrased;
2. Clearly indicating where material is directly quoted (a direct quote occurs if 5 or more words from another source are used exactly as they are used in the original) by using quotation marks for short quotes or indenting for longer quotes; and
3. Providing a full reference to the source in a list of references or citations at the end of the work.
Kurallar
Course Expectations
- Punctual attendance. This is mandatory and forms part of your overall grade. Please contact me prior to any absences or as soon as possible after missing class.
- Please have your reader/readings with you in each class for reference. All assigned texts and additional texts for further reading are available on the Kampüs Bilgi Sistemi.
- Engaging in class discussions and active participation. With everything you read, ask yourself: “What is the author trying to say?” “From what perspective and in what social, historical, philosophical, political context are they writing?”
- Giving a Presentation of 15-25 minutes; presentations that are less then 15 minutes might not be counted. Also, every student should distribute a one-page handout of his or her presentation before starting. This includes the main arguments of the author(s), and elaboration of it, including possible criticisms of the author’s arguments. Reading the presentation from a paper or from PowerPoint is not acceptable.
- Come prepared to class; not coming prepared to class affects negatively your class attendance and participation.
- If you wish to use PowerPoint, make sure that your laptop is working appropriately.
- One critical paper, the submission of the critical paper should be at least two days prior to class. Otherwise, late assignments are subject to a 5% grade deduction per day until the assignment is emailed to the instructor.
- Every critical paper should include the following:
- Author’s main argument(s)
- Describe the main ideas with your own words
- Elaborate whether you agree with the argument or not, and why?
- The critical paper should be between 700- 1000 words.
- You can send your critical paper via email, please do not send an empty email but write your name and the name of the article you reviewed.
